Meet Ofentse Kgomo: A Durbanite at Heart and a Clifton Trailblazer

Meet Ofentse Kgomo, a proud member of Clifton’s Class of 2020. Born in Bloemfontein but raised in Durban, Ofentse joined Clifton in Grade 4 on a full scholarship. With his class, he helped pioneer lasting, positive change at the school.

In this edition of From Our Old Boys’ Network, we had the privilege of reconnecting with Ofentse Kgomo. Joining Clifton in Grade 4 on a full scholarship, Ofentse quickly became known for his energy, leadership, and drive to make a difference. From his early days at Addington Primary to helping his Clifton class leave a lasting legacy, Ofentse’s journey is a testament to resilience, innovation, and the spirit of community that defines our Old Boys.

Tell us a bit about what you currently do (studies, roles, responsibilities, etc.)

Currently, I am a part-time marketing student at the Durban University of Technology, as well as the Co-Founder of AfriWealth Holdings and, my true passion, the Chief Operating Officer at Dream Big Stay Humble.

Since finishing high school, I’ve been fortunate to dive into nearly every facet of the events, marketing, and advertising industry. I’ve held roles in sales, promotions, brand ambassadorship, and even bartending—experiences that have equipped me with invaluable insights and skills.

At AfriWealth Holdings, we’ve launched AfriWealth Events, specializing in team-building, corporate and private events, and school fun days, creating meaningful experiences that bring people together.

Meanwhile, at Dream Big Stay Humble, I oversee operations for a youth-focused organization dedicated to skills development in STEM, coding, and broader empowerment initiatives, driving impactful change in our communities.

How did you end up where you are now? Tell us about the journey along the way.

My journey to this point is truly a testament to God’s grace.

Ofentse Kgomo

It hasn’t been a perfect or linear path, but my determination to keep moving forward—no matter the challenges—has kept me grounded. After matriculating, I wasn’t entirely sure what my future held or the exact direction I wanted to take. What I did know was my passion for helping people and building connections, which naturally steered me toward the work I do today.

The journey has been filled with both highs and lows, each playing a role in shaping who I am and bringing me closer to my purpose. While there’s still much to achieve, I feel confident that I’m on the right path and look forward to continuing this exciting journey.

What are some of the good/ fond memories you forged during your time at Clifton?

There are so many great memories that it’s hard to choose just a few! I’m proud to say I left my mark on every aspect of Clifton life. As a scholarship student, I was given incredible opportunities, and I made the most of them. I grew as a leader, from being a primary school class representative to serving as Deputy Head Boy in 2020, War Cry Leader in 2019 and 2020, and captain of various sports teams.

In sports, I gave my all representing Clifton in the Basketball and Soccer first teams, striving to compete at the highest level. Beyond that, being President of the Interact Club, singing in the Choir, and performing with the Dramatics team across several productions helped shape me as a person.

While it’s tough to single out a specific memory, the common thread through all of them is how much I embraced every part of school life. The experiences and connections I made at Clifton will always hold a special place in my heart.

Was this a career path you wanted to pursue when you were still at school, or when did this love for what you do originate?

My involvement with Clifton’s Interact Club was a pivotal experience that deeply influenced my path. Being immersed in community involvement from Grade 8 onward left a lasting impression, and by matric, I had proudly completed over 150 hours of service. This journey sparked a profound passion for helping others and making a difference.

While I briefly lost touch with that passion after high school, life—and God’s guidance—helped steer me back to this calling. It reignited my drive to create meaningful change, both through my work and in the communities I serve.

6. Who or what (experience had the biggest impact on your life while still a schoolboy at Clifton?

I’d like to give an honorary mention to Bradley Evans (Class of 2017), who was my mentor when I was in Grade 8 and he was in Grade 11. Brad encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, get involved in as much as I could, and use those experiences to discover my identity. Taking his advice to heart, I embraced every opportunity Clifton offered, and those experiences played a huge role in shaping who I am today.

What do you attribute your successes in life to? What is your personal ethos or creed?

I attribute my successes to a strong foundation rooted in three pillars: family, health, and wealth—not just material wealth, but the richness of growth, purpose, and fulfillment. Family keeps me grounded, health keeps me moving forward, and wealth of experience and opportunity drives me to create a meaningful life.

My personal ethos is to seize every opportunity to grow, serve others, and stay true to my values. I believe that every experience—good or bad—plays a role in shaping me into the person I’m meant to be.

What advice would you share with yourself as a schoolboy, knowing what you know now?

If I could give advice to my younger self, it would be to embrace every challenge and opportunity without the fear of failure. Stay true to your values, keep pushing to be involved, and understand that every experience—whether a success or setback—has something valuable to teach you. Don’t hesitate to seek guidance or step up to lead when the opportunity arises; each role will help you learn more about yourself. Above all, trust your journey, knowing that even the uncertain steps are leading you toward a meaningful purpose.

What is your message to other Clifton Boys to inspire them to contribute or get involved in an Old Boys’ Association?

I believe there’s always more we can do, and I encourage other Clifton Boys to join me in reconnecting and becoming more actively involved. Being part of the Old Boys’ Association is a unique opportunity to give back, strengthen our community, and carry on the legacy we’ve all helped build. Together, we can make a meaningful impact by supporting one another and empowering future generations of Clifton Boys.

What is next for you, what are your plans going forward?

My immediate goal is to graduate and strengthen my academic foundation. Beyond that, I’m focused on growing and expanding my businesses, perfecting my craft, and continuing to evolve both professionally and personally.

I’m driven by the desire to make a meaningful impact, not just in my life but in the lives of those around me. The journey ahead is about refining my skills, seizing new opportunities, and using the lessons I’ve learned to create lasting change.

I’m excited for what the future holds and the potential to reach new heights, knowing each step forward brings me closer to building a lasting legacy.

Any last thoughts?

I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone who has been part of my journey, especially at Clifton.

Thank you for the support, the lessons, and the encouragement along the way. God bless.

A big thank you Ofentse, for taking the time to share your incredible journey with us here at Clifton.
